Here at the Epsilon Lambda Chapter of Phi Gamma Delta, many of us have found life-long friends. Friends that we hang out with, friends we help with homework and friends we can talk to. Friends like these are great, but it is not what makes Fiji’s brothers. Brotherhood does not mean we are always best friends, it does not mean we always get along, and it definitely doesn’t mean we all support or agree with each other on everything. To some this may sound like it is less of a brotherhood than the friends we have made, but it is what makes the brotherhood strong.
The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines brotherhood as “an association for a particular purpose.” This is exactly what brotherhood is in Phi Gamma Delta. Although we may not all get along or support each other all the time, there is always a level of respect between us. We all realize why we became a Fiji, and we all hold each other to those standards. This can be hard sometimes, but it is that respect that helps a brother tell another brother he is wrong, or that he is not living up to the standards we have set for ourselves. It is a tough love that has shaped us all into better people and prepared us all for a bright future.
