Philanthropy

Service is one of the five values of Phi Gamma Delta, and philanthropy is a very important aspect of this fraternity to help young men mature and better our community.  We have done this in many different ways.

Every month for the past year, we have sponsored a monthly American Red Cross blood drive on-campus in which we volunteer and help make the blood drives possible.  We held a 3-on-3 basketball tournament in which 26 teams participated, and all of the proceeds, $324, were donated to the Greater Lansing Food Bank to help the needy in Lansing.  We adopted a stretch of highway through the Adopt-a-Highway program in the Lansing area that we clean up every few months to show care for our environment and city.  We also held a joint-philanthropy event with Chi Omega Sorority, the FIJI-XO Make-a-Wish Car Wash, in which we all volunteered our time to wash cars and ended up raising $706 for the Make-a-Wish Foundation.  A handful of brothers also volunteered at a local Lansing soup kitchen, and we plan to continue to assist them in the future.  These are just some of the ways in which we try to show how important service is for us as FIJI brothers and hopefully we can inspire other MSU students to get involved in helping us and our community.
